Libby snatched the controller out of her younger brothers hand. Hey, he said in protest, Im watching the t.v.
Libby started changing the channel, Not anymore, its my turn. Her brother threw her a look of disgust as he left the couch vacant and stomped out of the room. Libby rolled her eyes vaulted over the back of the couch and settled in the spot her brother had just vacated.
He was such a brat sometimes she thought to herself. He knew that her favorite show was always on at this time of the day and that she always watched it. He had nothing to complain about. Libby settled deeper into the couch as her favorite show began.
Suddenly halfway through the show when things were just starting to get interesting the screen went white static. What, Libby protested bolting up on to her feet. Just as quickly as the static had come one it disappeared to be replaced by a military warning signal. This signal was set up to warn the residents of the community to evacuate during time of war.
Libby knew as well as anyone else about the war going on, but it wasnt supposed to affect her. It was being fought on enemy ground mostly with missiles. They hardly ever used people any more except to clean up. After a couple minutes waiting to see if her show would come back on Libby irately turned off the t.v.
She was pretty upset that they had interrupted her show. Getting something to eat seemed like a good idea so she stomped off into the kitchen. Stopping Libby looked around. There was a strange buzzing noise coming from somewhere. Actually it sounded like it was coming from all around and it was getting louder every second.
Rushing the rest of the way into the kitchen Libby looked out the kitchen window. She was just in time to see a bright flash of light, and then a searing pain hit her overwhelming all of her nerves, and then nothing.
Later they would say it was a tragedy. But perhaps they should have never hid a missile storehouse under a rural area but the enemy shouldnt have been able to find out about it. There must have been a spy that leaked the information. The government would find the spy for sure and prosecute him.
The bodies that could be found were found and put into a mass grave. Everything else was incinerated. The land was cleared. It all happened in what seemed like no time. The war dragged on. Everyone else went back to their lives, back to just themselves. Occasionally they would listen to what was going on in the war, or perhaps if they were in an extremely reflective mood they just might remember that little rural area of about 75,000 people that was destroyed in a matter of seconds.
